Malaysia 12th Election on March 8, 2008

The Election Commission (EC) announced, that date of the 12th Pilihanraya Malaysia, going to be on March 8, 2008 and the nominations date on February 24, 2008 and leave about 13-day campaign period for all 30 registered political parties in the country.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman said at the EC headquarters Putrajaya at 11.40am on February 14, 2008 (Today as promise).

• The election would involve 222 parliamentary seat.

• 505 state seats in 12 states except for 71 state seats in Sarawak.

• and 10,922,139 , including 221,085 postal voters were eligible to cast their votes based on the electoral roll gazetted on February 5, 2008.

The announcement was carried live by RTM and TV3.

NOTE: The Sarawak state election was held on May 20, 2006. The state assembly’s five-year mandate will only lapse in 2011.
